Apologia pro Mea Vita
by Thomas Ruppel

These words are the authors best effort to transmit to another generation the Arts of Life that he has learned through interest, study, effort and fear to arrive at a point where he thinks he can look back over the horizon and say: I have come full circle. Existence - Evolution - Consciousness - the Universe - Multiverse - Existence. This is why he has titled the book: In Defense of My Life. And to quote Bertrand Russells Foreword to the first volume of his autobiography: This has been my life. I have found it worth living, and I would gladly live it again if the chance were offered me.

Thomas Ruppel is a retired Senior Engineer with Parsons Corporation, past site support contractor for the U.S. Department of Energys National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is Founder and Coordinator of NETLs annual Conference on Unburned Carbon on Utility Fly Ash (1995-2004), having initiated the conference in 1995. With NETL, he was the environmental specialist on several projects to reduce pollution emissions from coal-fired power plants in the Department of Energys Clean Coal Technology Demonstration Program 1990-1995.

Ruppel has been employed as a research chemist, chemical research engineer and environmental engineer.

Ruppel is a past Chairman and a Director of the Pittsburgh Section of the American Chemical Society. He was a member of the Allegheny Mountain Section of the Air & Waste Management Association (AWMA), having chaired sessions on nitrogen oxides control regulations at AWMA national meetings. He is the author of approximately 40 publications and presentations. He holds a B.S. degree in chemistry from Duquesne University, a B.S. degree in chemical engineering, and an M.S. degree in chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh. Ruppel is a Qualified Environmental Professional, Emeritus and resides in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania.
