Chestnuts Roasting
by R. Paul Whalen Bob and Renee Hale had a great marriage, two wonderful daughters, and close friends as neighbors. Therein was the problem. Renee felt a creeping dullness. Chestnut Street was the answer and the Chestnut Street parade was the boredom breaker. At their new address, 1776 Chestnut, Bob is made the new chairman of the Chestnuts Fourth of July paradeheld in August. Organizing a parade of racing lawnmowers, diarrheic goats, a bowler league, ferrets, and feuds was daunting enough, but when the rumored running of the ferrets became a reality, Bob gained the mayors attention and an appearance of network TV. In the process, Bob and Renee learn something about dealing with chaosand one another. ABOUT THE AUTHOR: A semi-retired trade magazine publisher, R. He moved to Chicago, where he earned a degree in marketing from DePaul University. He now lives in Arlington Heights, Illinois, with his wife of forty years.
