First Love And High Adventure
by Mick Romanski
Author Mick Romanski is an immigrant of Slavic descent who bases this story on personal experiences.
Romanskis pursuit of the American dream is derailed by impotence at seventeen with no hope of cure. Losing his first love, job and business failures, and suicidal depression steer him into wrong choices. Drug smuggling was exciting, lucrative, and finally very addictive. Many of us can relate to growing up with issues of bullying, peer pressure, family expectations, college, achievement of goals, thrill and pain of first love, and drug experimentation. How we make our choices ultimately determines our fate.
This book could influence either good or bad choices and certainly a different perspective. What makes it unique is that it is a timepiece from 1945 to 1973 and shows how the decisions made by a child from a dysfunctional immigrant family shaped the character of the man. The influences of World War II, the culture of the fifties, sixties and seventies produced the winners and losers of today. The individual challenges have not changed with time and the need to be loved, understood and material success shapes us all.
Romanski didnt want to rely on anyone and his approach to smuggling was from an engineering students perspective using the scientific method. Unfortunately this method cannot factor in feelings, morality or predict the actions of others.(2012, paperback, 230 pages)
