The story is designed to entertain the young reader as well as educate him or her about earthworms. The soil where Herman and his family are living becomes very hard because the owners do not water it. They move into the yard next door, only to discover the yard is full of poison and makes Herman sick. The worm family finds a new yard that has plenty of good food, fresh water, and lots of new friends. The family who owns this yard realizes earthworms are good for the soil, so the two families help each other. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Zoia Georgieva was born and grew up in Bulgaria. She emigrated to the United States in 1998, where she later got married and had a daughter, Sophie, who is now two and a half years old. She also has two stepchildren, James and Emma. Zoia and her family have been living in California for the last eight years. Zoia completed her teaching credentials in special education and general education recently, through CSU, Stanislaus, and National University in California.
