by Dr. Ambrose Adikamkwu Monye, Ph.D. The Cock That Crows in the Compound is a collection of short stories about some of the experiences the author went through growing up in Nigeria. They are stories about his childhood experiences. The author nostalgically retells these tales to retrieve a past that is dimly lost to him and many of his peers during these years. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Dr. Ambrose Adikamkwu Monye is a paremiologist. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in June 1975. He also obtained his Master of Arts degree in English from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria, in 1981, and his Ph.D. in English from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in 1988. Dr. Monye won the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship award to teach English and African Literature at Central Connecticut State University, New Britain, in August 1993. Later, he briefly taught at the University of Connecticut, Storrs. Before leaving Nigeria for the U.S.A., Dr. Monye was the Director of the Division of General Studies, University of Benin, Benin-City, from 1992 to 1993. In 1997, he came back to Central Connecticut State University, New Britain, to do a project titled African-American Autobiographies: An Extension of African Oral Forms. Since then he has been teaching in so many universities in the country, including Westfield State College in Massachusetts; the University of the District of Columbia, Washington, D.C.; the University of Arkansas, Pine Bluff; Bowie State University; and lately, University of Maryland University College. Dr. Monye has written three books and has thirty published articles. He has served as editor/reviewer to many scholarly journals in Nigeria and the U.S.A.
