Nellie Mae refused to put her husband there, so she decided that Hank needed to be out in the open air. On April 25, 1944, Nellie Mae packed up the things she cared about the most into the covered wagon. She loaded her family up and headed west to Hollywood, California, on April 25, 1944.
On her journey to the West Coast, she encountered people trying to take her covered wagona nd horses, but she kept on going.
