The Enchanters
by Edwyne Rouchelle Nineteen ninety-nine. The year the world held its breath. America needed a hero. She got three. When one century ends and another begins, questions that are as old as civilization return to send fear, doubt, and uncertainty coursing through the veins of nearly every man, woman, and child on the planet. December 31, 1999, it will be the same: The world ends at midnight. What should we do? What can we do? America fears Y2K will bring the world to an abrupt halt. WE have to prevent world becoming increasingly dependent upon computerization to run all of our systems, from standing still or crashing in total destruction at zero hour 2000. Underneath this outward activity, however, lay the real horror. Will anyone even be here, alive and breathing, at12:01 A.M., January 1, 2000, to care or notice that nothing is moving? Three will be asked to champion our plight, the continuance of our very existence. To do this, they will first be required to seek within themselves, face graces and faults of ancestors past, and find mystical powers they have always possessed though have often tried desperately to deny. These three, barley of legal age to drink or drive, must save mankind and lead it stalwartly into a new century...and beyond. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Edwyne Rouchelle began a career in corporate America right out of Texas A&M University at Commerce with a degree in business administration and sociology. Although an avid reader since very early in her childhood, with an exception of a rare occasion or two, she would resist the lure of her writer's muse until asked to write a weekly column for The Dallas Weekly on interpersonal development, personal accountability, and self-improvement topics in the early 1990s. Before the decade was over, she'd write the story and script for a thirty-minute movie, as well as a short story about desegregation through the eyes of a student whose life would be forever changed by it, which was published in an anthology. The Enchanters - the first story of a sci-fi/fantasy series - had also begun as a short story in 1997, then grew into a novel. It soom became obvious it would have to be a serial. Ms. Rouchelle lives in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, where she teaches English. Her sons, Bobby and Mark, and her grandson all live less than fifteen minutes away.
