About the Author
Sannie L. Chamblee was born in Colerain, North Carolina. His mother died when he was four years old and his father passed away when he was nine. Sannie lived with his paternal grandmother and an uncle on a farm. After the death of his grandmother, at age eleven, he left the farm and went to Ahoskie, North Carolina, and lived with his maternal grandmother. While attending Robert Lee Vann Elementary School, Junior High, and High School, he participated in the choir, chorus, drama club, and played basketball and football. In 1955 Sannie graduated from high school with Honors, number six from the top of the class.
Upon graduating from high school, Sannie received a scholarship from Elizabeth City State Teachers College, where in 1959 he earned the degree of Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with Honors, having received the highest GPA among males. That same year he taught mathematics and science at Robert Lee Vann Junior High. He also served as the high school head football coach from 1959 to 1966.
Sannie married his college sweetheart, Martha A. Purvis, from Rocky Mount, North Carolina. God granted them three children: Sannie A. Chamblee, Christyl M. Chamblee, and Aldric D. Chamblee.
After working in education for ten years in Hertford County, North Carolina, Sannie and Martha moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia. Sannie taught in both elementary and middle schools in the Norfolk City Public Schools System, while Martha taught in the primary grades. On December 31, 1976 Sannie earned the Master of Science in Education Degree, with concentration in Administration, from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. Both Sannie and Martha served thirty-nine years in public education.
Sannies hobbies are vacationing, reading, writing, hunting, fishing, and watching basketball and football. He also enjoys lending a helping hand to others.
