ABOUT THE AUTHOR A natural poet and playwright, Denise Tulloch was in third grade when she won a writing contest. Getting an education was instilled in her by her parents; however, this took a back seat in her uninspiring intermediate school. When she arrived at John Dewey High School in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, New York, she experienced a culture shock but a positive one. The students were encouraged to choose whatever subjects they wanted. She chose fashion, but was also exposed to literature, thus broadening her horizons and as she became aware of the plight of others awakening her to the inequalities between schools. Writing became her mission her way of doing something to change those inequalities. She received an associates degree in fashion, marketing, and management from Berkeley College in 1994.
