Becoming Myself: A Passage of Grace

Becoming Myself: A Passage of Grace is a collection of stories tied together by the authors life journey. She depicts the post-Depression South, sharing her deep affection for the African-American people while acknowledging racial tensions. Munday also tells her personal love story, describing her role as a ministers wife and recounting the births of her children. She also writes of the heartbreaking AIDS-related death of her youngest child. In addition, Munday recalls some of the people she and her husband have known and served through his work as a Methodist minister, and she gives thanks to the organ donor who saved her husbands life.

Becoming Myself: A Passage of Grace highlights the process of growing up, growing old, and ultimately becoming a unique person made special by God.

Born into the post-Depression era of the old South, Sara Munday grew up a poor child on a plantation inherited from her grandfather. As the oldest child of an alcoholic father and member of a dysfunctional family, she found a deep sense of responsibility and loyalty at an early age.

She graduated from Asbury College in 1953 with a degree in Christian Education. She went on to work as a teacher, social worker, sales person, and public relations director.

She and her husband, Gerald, have been married 56 years and have three children. Their youngest son, Mike, who was gay, died of AIDS. She and her husband also have five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Munday was the first volunteer executive director of the South Mississippi AIDS Task Force, and she currently volunteers at a free health clinic where she determines patient eligibility for treatment.

In her free time she enjoys cross-stitching, cooking, and gardening.
