About the AuthorArthur Nelson Thornhill attended Vanderbilt University from 1966 to 1970, and he was carrier qualified on USS Lexington in 1970. He was a designated naval aviator in 1971 and personally trained hundreds of Navy pilots and flight instructors. He retired from USN in 1981 and coauthored Fly Away Old Glory with James OConnor Sargent (1978-2000). He wrote the first draft of The Holedigger in 1980 aboard the USS Eisenhower in the Indian Ocean.
Arthur married Judy Davis in 1965. They have one child, Cathy, who is married to Steve Clamage. They have given them two absolutely perfect grandchildren, Celeste Pearl in 1999 and Jack Davis in 2003.
