An Ocean within Each Puddle
by David Woods
An Ocean within Each Puddle is an anthology of the authors own poems written during the past forty-four years. They range from 1967 through 2010. The title stems from the authors belief that poetry, like all art forms, should be as basically simple as possible. The author likes to think that God and love are the nouns and Nature is the adjectives. David Woods enjoys writing about people, especially his family. He hopes his book is a work of love.
David says, I write with my spirit, my heart, and my soul, and I edit with my mind. I try to include as much concrete imagery as possible. The major character trait of poetry is to be beautiful.
About the Author
David Woods grew up in the innocence and confidence of the 1950s and early 1960s. He tries to recapture that innocence and goodness in his poemsthrough the purity of Nature, through his spiritual poems, and his portraits of people who are and were close to him.
When he was seven years old, he published a newspaper for the kids in his neighborhood. And reading was one of his most enjoyable experiences.
When he was seventeen in high school, he was reading a French poem by Rimbaud called Le Dormeur du Val, and suddenly everything clicked. He had never experienced anything so beautiful, and he knew what he wanted to do with his life.
Woods says there are always more, newer, and better poems in the wings. Poetry is one profession from which you dont ever have to retire.
