Product Overview

by Dr. Jack L. Gresham While attending LIFE (Learning Institute for Elders) at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, I was privileged to hear a series of lectures by the Chairman of the Department of Poetry. I had the preconceived idea that this would be a dull series. Was I ever wrong! Afterward, I thought how enlivening it would be for me to be able to attend class and learn how to write poetry. Instead, because of time constraints and scheduling, I just started writing on my own, poetry at least that is what I call it, deservedly or not. I thought of easily remembered epic times in my life (though they might have not seemed so when happening) and was able to consider just the tip of the iceberg. The intent of this collection is not only for self-expression but also to perhaps inspire readers to consider the meaning of epic times in their lives as well, perhaps even inspire them to write poems. ABOUT THE AUTHOR The author is a retired orthopaedic surgeon living in Orlando, Florida, where he practiced for over forty years. He graduated from the University of Miami School of Medicine in 1961. He is a native of Miami and has lived in Florida his entire life, coming to Orlando after completing medical school. He did spend four years in the Air Force as an all-weather jet interceptor pilot stationed in New Jersey prior to his medical education. He married his wife Moena just after completing flight training in 1953, and they have three children and five grandchildren. From 1980 to 1985, he spent five years with his wife in Saudi Arabia, where he helped bring western medicine and surgery to a military hospital and rehab center that served a largely civilian population. Between 1994 and 1999, he made five trips to southern Ukraine, where he introduced and helped establish joint replacement surgery at the Hospital for Traumatology in Donetsk. He is a student of the Bible and has long been involved in teaching Sunday School classes and leading Home Bible Study groups. This is his first published work outside of medical papers.
