by E. Randolph Hawthorne
In life, everyone has trials. Everyone has periods wherein trouble seems to arise out of nowhere. But have you ever felt alone in a crowded room? Have you ever felt the pain of believing no one cared for you? Have you ever felt hopelessness and a lack of self-worth? Have you ever urgently needed someone to talk to but felt no one could understand because you, yourself, could not understand?
In life, have you ever began a task of achievement but could not finish because you felt you were not meant to achieve anything, though you knew in your heart you were quite capable? Have you ever felt that someone who by nature is supposed to love you only tells you negative things?
You were always told you would never amount to anything. No matter how you tried, you could not please that one person to whom you looked up. Well, this book tells the story, in poetry, of my struggles. It tells the story of how these negatives can affect a person, not only in childhood, but into ones adult years. It tells the story of the pain and the search for love and an understanding of what love is. I thought I knew what it was, but I could not give. I could not give it because I could not feel it; therefore, I found myself looking for love, as someone said, in all the wrong places.
This poetic story culminates in finding love through perseverance when the pain of life and the self-doubt it brings takes one so low that there is nowhere to look but up to the awakening of the love of Jesus Christ and hearing the singing of the morning dove. If this is you, it is my hope that one day you will hear when the morning dove sings.
